A $25k home office
Pro sports bettors want every possible edge, as their epic home offices make clear.
REALIZING THAT I’LL BE SPENDING much of the new year at my desk, I recently splurged on a new chair, monitor, and laptop stand. With screen resolution and lumbar support top of mind, I thought it would be fun to write about some of the most elaborate home offices I’ve ever seen.
The Washington Post just published my findings. Five full-time sports bettors welcomed me into their homes over Zoom, where I saw more TVs, computers, and smartphones than I ever imagined one person could need.
Pro bettors differ on this. Some, surprisingly, rarely watch sports, believing they’d be better off making decisions based purely on data. (I recently visited the Denver-area home of a very successful NFL bettor. Although he has some lovely TV rooms, he told me he prefers to follow games by tracking the written-out play-by play — e.g. “Derrick Henry runs for two yards” — rather than watch.) Other bettors say they want every possible edge, which can include having games on every waking minute.
Here are their stories:
As I mention in the story, having an expensive home office is no guarantee that you’ll win a lot of money betting on sports. (Duh.) So please, if you are looking for belated Chanukah gifts or last-minute Christmas ideas, do not buy someone $25,000 worth of gadgets for their gambling.
I hope you have a happy, peaceful close to 2023. Wynnie is still recovering from Sally’s graduation festivities.
Wynnie desperately needs her rest!
Safe from sports gambling over here on Golf Drive!! Another hug of congrats to Sally--and a pat for Wynnie--Love, Johnny
